Hello, hikers,
Awaiting faithful groupie Doreen's arrival, I kept my eye out for her red
Taurus...what's this? Here she comes, sporting a brand new Lesbaroo
Outback...fancy! You'll soon have women flocking to your side with a car
like that ...partly cloudy skies and a slight breeze greeted us as we made
our way in to the Tiger Mountain trail system. Having somehow missed the bus
trail, we took a scenic route to the connection of the Poo Poo point trail,
adding a mile or so to the day...oh, well. Not bad for my first time guiding
in the area (:-)! Soon the loops looked familiar as we approached the start
of the trail to Poo Poo point, a wide open area affording wonderful views of
the surrounding areas and a take off point for local hang gliders. The trail
up, well maintained and wooded, soon provides us with the feeling of
solitude. Ahead, we greet a few foot bridges and a railed one, giving us the
sights and sounds of the many babbling brooks/streams in the park. Now
enjoying some more serious uphill, we remark on the damage from the recent
wind and rain storms and how quickly the trail has been cleared of fallen
trees and debris. Just as the switchbacks are becoming more relentless, a
downed tree blocking our way appears...the only one of it's kind on today's
journey. Up and over we go, soon approaching a gate and the trail to the
point. Several others with their dogs in tow were out enjoying the nice
spring like day, as well. A right hand turn would soon put us at the point,
our lunch and rest spot for the day. No gliders today, as the weather looks
quite ominous to the West. Sitting, snacking, and socializing, we soon feel
a few drops of mist on ourselves....sigh! I guess it's time for a few
photos, and to pack up already! We breezed downhill for the return trip,
finding the trails we were looking for on the way in, shortening our return
trip a bit. The mist was now a light rain, but nothing would dampen our
spirits on a hike!! Back at the trailhead, I once again envied the new car
of Doreen's, (but not wanting the payments).....a good day was had by the
two of us. Stay tuned for details of next month's hike to Dungeness
Spit...and an early start to a day long venture,
Happy Trails,
Kathy
