Discovery Park (January 13th, 2007)

Hello hikers,

What a beautiful day for a hike! Jen and I (Janice, web-mistress and hike leader) enjoyed the wonderful views of Puget Sound and some lively conversation on this last minute hike. The weather was perfect, chilly with a light snow fall. We left the South parking area around 10:30 am and made our way to the south beach loop. We enjoyed the sound of the small waves crashing on the rocky shoreline and were entertained by many different varieties of sea birds. There was plenty of driftwood and very few other hikers on the beach. We did see others hiking the main loop trail but were left to ourselves on the beach. We followed the South Beach trail around the light house where it changed to the the North Beach trail. This trail lead back up to the main loop trail which took us through some very nice forested areas where we enjoyed watching the wrens and other small winter birds. The snow began to fall a little harder and we took some time out to catch snowflakes on our tongues before heading back to the parking lot. You really can't hike Discovery Park without stopping at Chinooks for lunch afterwards. Good weather, good friends, and good food. What more does a girl need?

I hope to see you all on the trail soon,
Janice.
